ALABA PEDRO

Alaba Pedro started his musical career notably with the Roy Chicago and His Rhythm Dandies band in 1961 to replace Mike Enahoro a fine guitarist who left for England at the time. Pedro’s guitar playing assumed an authoritative status in the eighties and he was considered one of the leading exponents of this instrument as
he provided studio sessions to almost all notable bands around at the time. He contributed guitar sessions to the works of Charles Iwegbue, Inyang Henshaw, Hubert Ogunde and others. Pedro got a job as the leader of UPN band in 1979 a big outfit which disbanded in 1981. Alaba later led a very formidable combo band whose music is a blend of the old and the new. Guitar was his customary instrument, but he later became an accomplished singer-composer whose songs reach out professionally in terms of vocalization and instrumentation. Pedro, later a perfectionist on the Keyboard was not particularly steeped in the tradition of Roy Chicago his mentor. His sources of inspiration were many and are mainly Ghanaian oriented. He did several highlife works including Emu Originally composed by Hubert Ogunde one of his past mentor. This master of guitar strokes took his exit in 2012 at the age of 71.
