Lagos is music in motion. An easy motion tourist attraction. The hustle and bustle of the city is total rhythm and reason for that ensemble of different cultures in Lagos dancing to the city tunes.

Agidigbo thumb box was started in my neighborhood of Lafiaji on the island of Lagos. The Ijaw people started the genre of music as an instrument for entertaining them selves while making their foot mats from coconut covers which was their vocation.

Later, Lagosians copied the Ijaws and the beat and instrument started serving as a toy songs which metamorphosed into Faaji, a form of recreational music for the Islanders.

The Western Toppers band led by Adeolu Akinsanya as you all know that the seat of Nigerian Government under the British colonial rule was in Lafiaji area. The sociopolitical and economic development of Nigeria started from Lagos Island.

The power and soul of modern music in Nigeria lie in Lagos island. Musicians continously serched for new discovery and Agidigbo sounds and rhythms breezed the island culture and entertainment life into other spheres of Nigeria
through the like of Adeolu Akinsanya and Ayinde Bakare

A visit to the prestigious British Library, still celebrates the archives these great musicians and their exploration to promote Africa’s finest sounds and rhythms. Nigerian born Agidigbo singer Ayinde Bakare was the first musician to play the sound to the European audience in London when he went on a tour of England in 1957.
