Where is Ayinla Omowura’s Daughter?

A few years ago, Halimat Asabi announced her emergence on the music scene with her maiden album. Appropriately titled Apala Gbode [Apala In Vogue], it was an ambitious attempt at resuscitating Apala Music by the daughter of none other than the legendary Ayinla Omowura.

For those who do not know her, Halimat is the product of Egun Mogaji and his wife, Tawakalitu [the popular Tawa Juda praised by Ayinla in many of his albums.]

With her appearance, Halimat joined the rank of second and third generation musicians who are trying to revive the legacy of their illustrious forebears.

Years before, Akeem Ayinla Omowura had made spirited attempt to recreate the music of Egun Mogaji.

Arguably, Musiliu Haruna Ishola is one of the most successful of these second generation artistes. His Soyoyo remains danceable till today.

For Yusuf Olatunji, his grandson, Abideen is flying the Sakara flag and is making a success of it. Sikiru Ayinde’s daughter, Barry Made, and her brother,
