Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery is pleased to present ‘Fragments of Reality’, a solo exhibition by Ken Nwadiogbu. Co-curated by Dolly Kola-Balogun, founder of Retro Africa Gallery, the exhibition is on view from October 7th – November 25th at Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery, 2 Melior place, London bridge SE1 3SZ. Featuring 12 paintings and an installation.

London-based Ken Nwadiogbu will invite audiences to dive into his personal experiences as an artist and a migrant in a foreign country. Migrating from Nigeria to London and concluding his Masters in Painting from the Royal college of Art, these experiences have played a pivotal role in shaping Nwadiogbu’s creative process which explores abstract expression and uses a vibrant primary colour palette of red, blue, green and yellow. For Nwadiogbu, the colours he employs evoke a profound sense of nostalgia, reminding him of home and the emotions associated with it whilst drawing inspiration from thermographic cameras, which detect heat energy through infrared radiation.

‘Fragments of Reality’ is a visual exploration of memories captured by Ken Nwadiogbu in London which align with the experiences and challenges faced by black immigrants in the UK. Sometimes staged, sometimes serendipitous the composition of each canvas is created through skilful inclusion and omission, orchestrating a visual narrative that unravels the essence of what is crucial within the image.
Exploring what holds value, Ken is simultaneously commenting on the choices we make about where we want to go in life and whom we want to experience it with. This exploration delves into how history is preserved and documented, while examining the individuals who author and shape the information we consume today.
In some sense, this body of work delves into the intricate fabric of memory and its ephemeral nature. Memories, we find, are not faithfully preserved in their entirety, but rather exist as fragments, lingering remnants of experiences that continue to shape our reality. – Ken Nwadiogbu
The ‘Fragments of Reality’ exhibition opens to the public on Saturday October 7th from 3:00PM to 7:00PM at Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery, 2 Melior Place, London bridge SE1 3SZ, cocktails and drinks will be served.
