Events | Jelili Atiku Foundation presents Omowunmi Waheed in ‘MA DULL ARA e’

It is of a great pleasure we are announcing “Má Dull Ara ẹ: Live Conversation with Ashake Clothing / Omowunmi Waheed” to be hosted on Friday May 15 2020 by 3:00PM WAT. The conversation will be based on “Má Dull Ara ẹ”, a solo show on line of clothing by Omowunmi Waheed of the fashion label, Ashake Clothing. The cloths in the show took note from the impacts of the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown in Lagos, which has left millions of lower-income households vulnerable, battling hunger, miserable and traumatized. Omowunmi haven understood the prevailing circumstance and while in confinement of the lockdown had a two-week workshop conducted by Jelili Atiku (as a form of relief package and community care initiative) produced clothes for children. The clothing designs are in style, quality, beauty and glamour characterized by poetic and minimalistic propensities with heavy concentration Yoruba culture with a blend of hybrid contents of foreign influence.

The discussants in the conversation are Jumoke Sanwo – the Creative Director at Revolving Art Incubator, Lagos, Nigeria; Rikke Jørgensen – an Independent Curator, Director of the communications agency Urban Art Communications and Founder of the Arts and Globalization Platform, Jelili Atiku – Nigerian international acclaim artist and 2015 Prince Claus Laurette; Wasiu Ibrahim – the Director of Jelili Atiku Foundation and Special assistant (on Indigenous matters), and Omowunmi Waheed – the fashion designer and seamstress.
