Communal Re-Imagination is an artist-led alternative art school initiative that provides a space for alternative cultural dialogue and knowledge sharing platform that regenerates and revives the community through artistic interventions and creative engagement of young creatives between the ages of 18 and 35. Participants are encouraged to re-imagine Iwaya/Makoko Community based on their understanding of its present state to what they wish it could be by using multimedia and interdisciplinary methods.
And to achieve this, participants will work in tandem with the Site Gallery’s Society Explorers, a collective of young people aged 14 – 19, who meet regularly to collaborate, discuss and create. They work with artists and the gallery team to get involved in the artistic programme and to develop projects, events and ideas.
Through this open call, 20 applicants between the ages of 18 to 35 years old from Iwaya/Makoko community and environs will be selected. Successful applicants will be enrolled in a 3-month-long series of workshops and creative brainstorming sessions facilitated by both Site Gallery’s Society of Explorers and selected interdisciplinary artists from the artist network of the Vernacular Art-space Laboratory.
How to Apply:
There is no application fee. All applicants will have the opportunity of taking part in a series of workshops and portfolio review on the following disciplines: photography, video art, 3D printing, t-shirt print, tie and dye, disk Jockeying, performance art, contemporary (pop) dance 2 from June 1st – August 20th, 2021.
