As the doors of the newly minted Erelu Yeye Odua Gallery swing open, they unveil not just a collection of artworks but a testament to the boundless creativity thriving within Nigeria’s bustling metropolis.

Oyinkan Abayomi Drive in Ikoyi stands as one of Lagos’ most illustrious neighborhoods and building No. 8 will soon start becoming a memorable experience in the history of Nigerian art and culture sector. Despite the scorching sun, this alluring and richly constructed drive offers solace daily, winding along the lagoon’s edge, overlooked by the iconic skyscraper, Flat 1004, Victoria Island. The drive leads you to a place where life and love intertwine with artistic allure.

An Exhibition with Fusion of Love and Creativity

AffectionArt coincided with Valentine’s Day, infusing the exhibition with themes of love and affection. Various songs and melodies promoting love and affection truly brought the AffectionArt Group Exhibition to life. From the welcoming reception, the evergreen 1985 charity song “We Are The World” by United Support of Artistes for Africa was indeed apt for the theme behind the exhibition entitled AFFECTIONART!!! Stepping into the exhibition hall and Bob Marley’s “One Love” track brought affectionate moments for some of the patrons and visitors.

For Erelu Abiola Dosunmu Fernandez, the exhibition is more than a celebration of Valentine’s Day; it is a divine expression of love, a reminder of our shared humanity. “God is love,” she proclaims, “and in expressing love, we fulfill His will. Love is my strength, and AffectionArt embodies this essence,” she concludes with conviction.

What a colorful evening. Despite the rather hot weather, art lovers and guests were beaming with smiles while appreciating the creative ingenuity of the ‘Chosen 8’ to commemorate the opening of Erelu Yeye Odua Cultural Renaissance Center – Museum of Living Art. Notably, 36 pieces of artworks are on display in the one-week-long exhibition. Some of Nigeria’s most celebrated artists are participating with outstanding and quality works that affectionately captivate enthusiasts. Marvelling at Ojogbogbobiodun Omolayo’s curated brilliance to the sculptural mastery of Okezie Okafor, each artwork speaks volumes, resonating with patrons’ hearts. Artists such as Seyi Ajayi, Ade Adesina, Soji Oloyo, George Egunjobi all have outstanding artworks that will sweep patrons off their feet at the exhibition. The curator, Biodun Omolayo, the CEO of Omolayo Gallery in Lagos, explained the idea behind the exhibition, theme and title; ” We brainstormed to arrive at the theme. This is the first exhibition to declare open the incredible dream for Erelu Yeye Odua Cultural Renaissance Center – Museum of Living Art that will bring together various artists, creating access for residencies, workshops and trainings.” Omolayo whose presence in the Nigerian art sector has been well appreciated says while delivering his opening speech to welcome visitors and enthusiasts to the event.

Biodun Omolayo sees his participation as another milestone in his flourishing career. “It is an honour bestowed on me to have been invited by the founder to curate the first exhibition. There is something she must have seen in me and my career journey,” the stylish and cosmopolitan artist reveals.
