Jonathàn Kwegyr Aggrey, a distinguished watercolourist from Ghana, is making waves in the art world. Hailing from a country renowned for its vibrant Kente fabric and fashion, Jonathan has brought significant attention to watercolour painting, earning iconic status at a remarkably young age. Jonathan’s dedication to watercolour has turned him into a globetrotting artist. His arrivals at international airports are met with fanfare reminiscent of the Beatles’ iconic landings in the 1960s, complete with enthusiastic fans and red carpet receptions.

In a significant milestone, Jonathan recently published a book detailing his life and artistic journey. The book features over 180 of his paintings and provides an in-depth look at his decades-long exploration of watercolor. It includes chapters on his beginnings, the challenges he has faced, his unwavering vision, and his thoughts on the future of African watercolour art.

His mercurial speed and keeping his eyes on the ball, has earned him that flavour of a global appeal brand which earned him an ambassadorial deal with foremost artists’ materials company, Daniel Smith in the United States.

Jonathan’s series of exhibitions overtime have endeared many followers to him which automatically, opened doors to conduct more workshops on watercolours worldwide. These workshops allow him to share his expertise and inspire new generations of artists. His influence continues to shape and expand the world of watercolor art, solidifying his status as a leading figure in the field.

As the first African watercolourist to receive the Award, Cash Prize Winner of Prix des Peintres du Moulin knowns as Painters of the Mill Award at the Troisieme Biennale Internationale d’ Aquarelle de Coquelles BIAC, France in 2022, Jonathan Kwegyr Aggrey stands as a testament to the power of passion and perseverance, bringing a new dimension to Ghana’s rich cultural heritage through his exceptional watercolour movement.

Now, currently in Spain, for the Caudete in Focus, Spain Bienal Internacional Caudete Florencio López Art Gracias, as part of his global sojourn and invitations, the versatile artist is conducting more workshops, since, after departing Rome, Italy. What a career he has shouldered to triumphs!
