Nigerian visual artist Olumuyiwa Afolabi Olusola, known for his distinctive watercolour techniques, is set to unveil his latest exhibition titled “First Insight” at Gemini Art Gallery in Onikan, Lagos, on October 5, 2024. Olusola’s artistic practice revolves around watercolour, a medium he embraces for its fluidity and potential for abstraction. He aims to merge personal expression with a deep appreciation of his surroundings, offering viewers a unique lens through which to interpret their environments. His work often blurs the line between the abstract and the representational, inviting viewers to engage with the familiar in fresh and unexpected ways.

Having graduated from Yaba College of Technology in 1989, Olusola has amassed over two decades of experience in branding, graphic arts, and illustration. This diverse background informs his artistic voice, blending commercial skill with genuine artistic exploration. His transition from a successful brand strategist back to full-time studio artist is a testament to his commitment to visual arts.

“First Insight” promises to be a vibrant and alluring exploration of Nigerian landscapes and culture, reflecting Olusola’s experiences and observations. Through his use of colour and form, he captures the essence of various environments, from bustling urban scenes to serene natural vistas.
