Abuja, Nigeria – May 2025 – Acclaimed Nigerian painter Klaranze Okhide will open her muchanticipated solo exhibition, Ephemeral Narratives, at the Bouygues Club House, Abuja, on May 24th, 2025, with an opening cocktail reception. The exhibition will run until July 2nd, 2025, showcasing a new body of work that explores themes of identity, culture, and environmental consciousness.

A protégée of celebrated Nigerian artists Sam Ovraiti and Juliet Ezenwa Maja-Pearce, Klaranze Okhide has carved out a distinctive voice in the contemporary African art scene. Her vibrant and emotive work draws heavily from her cultural roots while engaging with pressing global themes such as migration and climate change.

Klaranze’s artistic journey has seen her participate in landmark exhibitions including Constellation by
Auchi Klass of ’99 at Iwalewa Gallery, Lagos; Creative Tides at the National Museum Onikan; and Deconstructing Unity, a group show featuring some of Nigeria’s most exciting visual artists. In addition to her contributions as a painter, she also served as curator for Creative Tides, demonstrating her multi-dimensional impact on the Nigerian art ecosystem.

Curated by Danielle Fichter, the Ephemeral Narratives exhibition marks a new milestone for Okhide. Fichter, the manager of Bouygues Club House, stated, “Our Club House is committed to promoting creativity and providing opportunities for emerging artists. Klaranze’s work exemplifies the vibrant and evolving nature of contemporary Nigerian art.”

In her artist statement, Okhide shares –

“In ‘Ephemeral Narratives,’ I embark on a visual journey that weaves together the vibrant threads of my Nigerian cultural heritage. This series reflects my personal struggles with identity, as I navigate the complexities of immigration, culture, and personality.”

Notable works in the exhibition include pieces from her well-received Tree and Market series, which speak to environmental conservation and sustainability, a confirmation to Okhide’s deep concern for the planet and her belief in art as a catalyst for awareness and action.

Ephemeral Narratives is not only a celebration of Okhide’s evolving artistry but also a call to preserve cultural identity amidst the constant tides of change.
