On the 4th of October 2025, the streets of Abuja came alive with colour, energy, and purpose as women, health professionals, and advocates participated in the first edition of iWALK4MENOPAUSE 2025, an awareness walk organized by the Menopause Support Initiative. The event underscored a growing movement to demystify menopause, promote open conversations, and empower women to embrace midlife health with dignity and confidence.

From the early hours, Mosunmola Dosunmu, the convener and participants converged at the take-off point dressed in branded T-shirts and caps, carrying banners with messages such as “Menopause is Natural, Not a Taboo” and “Support, Don’t Stigmatize.” The walk, which coursed through major streets of Abuja, combined fitness, education, and advocacy drawing attention to the often-overlooked realities of women’s midlife transitions.

Capturing Moments of Strength and Solidarity

The day’s proceedings were vividly captured through the lens of NEKO Studio, whose photographs documented the event’s vibrant spirit. The images portray participants smiling, waving flags, and engaging in lively conversations, while health experts and volunteers offered guidance and encouragement along the route.

In one frame, a group of women march arm in arm a symbol of unity and shared resilience. In another, a health practitioner pauses to educate a small crowd about the importance of nutrition and emotional support during menopause. Each photograph tells a human story, reflecting the event’s deeper purpose: to normalize the conversation around menopause in African society.

A New Chapter in Health Awareness

For the organizers, the walk was more than a symbolic gesture. It marked the beginning of a nationwide campaign to amplify awareness and understanding of menopause. The initiative seeks to provide platforms where women can learn, share experiences, and access the medical and emotional support they need.

Speaking after the walk, representatives of the Menopause Support Initiative led by Mosunmola Dosunmu reiterated their commitment to promoting women’s health through advocacy, community engagement, and education “Menopause is not an illness. It’s a natural phase of life. Our goal is to make sure every woman feels supported and informed through it,” one of the facilitators said.

As the participants dispersed, their laughter and camaraderie lingered proof that when women walk together, they move not just their bodies but the boundaries of awareness and understanding.
