The Harmattan Workshop has grown into one of the most important spaces for African artistic renewal. What started as an idea in Prof. Bruce Onobrakpeya’s mind which wasbto create a place where artists could work freely, learn deeply, and reconnect with the sources of their creativity 28 years ago. This has become a quiet but steady force shaping generations.

To preserve our roots is to stay grounded in the stories, symbols, and philosophies that formed us. At Harmattan, this is not treated as nostalgia. It is an active process of remembering who we are, understanding where our visual language comes from, and allowing those ideas to guide new work in honest and meaningful ways.
