Nigerian artist Godfrey Williams Okorodus has been commissioned to produce 20 awards for an upcoming London ceremony organized by anti-FGM advocate Comfort Momoh MBE. The project also marks the artist’s successful debut with epoxy resin, a medium he explored specifically for the prestigious commission.

Nigerian artist, Belgium based Godfrey Williams Okorodus has secured a significant international commission, producing 20 bespoke awards for an upcoming ceremony in London organised by anti-FGM advocate Comfort Momoh MBE.

The commission comes ahead of the award event scheduled for June 20 in the United Kingdom, where individuals and organisations making meaningful contributions to society will be recognised.

Sharing the development on his social media page, Okorodus revealed that the project provided an opportunity to explore a completely new artistic medium. Known for his versatility and commitment to creative excellence, the artist chose to work with epoxy resin for the awards despite having no previous experience with the material.

According to him, the process involved extensive experimentation before achieving the desired result.

“I decided to try out a medium I have never used before, epoxy resin. After a lot of experimenting, I finally got it right,” he wrote.

Okorodus also acknowledged the support of his friend, Kareem Hamadou Shuaibu, who assisted him during the production process.

The commission reflects the growing international recognition of Nigerian artists and their ability to deliver creative solutions across diverse media. It also highlights the enduring relationship between art and advocacy, as the awards will form part of an event championed by Comfort Momoh MBE, founder of Global Comfort UK and a respected campaigner against female genital mutilation (FGM).

For Okorodus, the project represents not only a professional milestone but also a successful venture into a new artistic territory, demonstrating the willingness of contemporary African artists to continually innovate and expand their creative practice.
