It is with profound sadness that we receive the news of the passing of Prince Olasehinde Odimayo at the age of 76. His departure marks the end of an era in the Nigerian art community and leaves a void that will be difficult to fill.

Prince Odimayo was one of the pioneer gallerists in Nigeria, a visionary whose passion, commitment, and unwavering belief in the power of art helped shape and nurture the growth of the Nigerian art scene. At a time when the appreciation and promotion of contemporary Nigerian art were still evolving, he stood firmly as a champion of artists and artistic expression. A very active leader of Art Galleries Association of Nigeria. (AGAN).

Beyond being a gallerist, he was a great art enthusiast and collector whose discerning eye and deep appreciation for creativity contributed significantly to the preservation and promotion of Nigeria’s rich artistic heritage. His gallery became a meeting point for artists, collectors, scholars, and lovers of culture, fostering dialogue and inspiring generations.

Prince Odimayo’s generosity of spirit, encouragement of emerging talents, and dedication to the arts earned him the respect and admiration of many within and beyond the creative community. His legacy lives on in the countless artists he supported, the collections he built, and the cultural institutions he helped strengthen.

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life devoted to the advancement of art and culture. His contributions will continue to resonate through the works of the artists he championed and the many lives he touched. His contribution towards promoting our traditional art is immeasurable.

Prince Olasehinde Odimayo will be sorely missed, but his legacy will remain an enduring source of inspiration for generations to come.
