Director’s Commentary: My Jebba Story by Kagho Idhebor

On August 8, JCAA launches Director’s Commentary at No Parking Lagos with Kagho Idhebor’s My Jebba Story, presented through a film screening, photography exhibition and artist conversation.

My Jebba Story returns Kagho to Jebba Street, where his relationship with photography first began. The film considers the lasting influence of a place he has since left, while the accompanying photographs offer another view of the people, streets and encounters that informed the work. The photographs and the film are two ways Kagho tells the same story.

A cinematographer, filmmaker and visual storyteller with an almost two-decade practice and numerous awards and recognitions, Kagho describes this presentation as an important return to photography. Seeing these images on a gallery wall for the first time marks not only his first photography exhibition, but a renewed engagement with the medium that first taught him how to see the world.
