Maria Galliani Dyrvik, a Norwegian-Italian writer and director renowned for her creative prowess in film and TV production, script development, and creative writing, presents “HOPE IS A WORD” at iREP2024. This film project delves into the remarkable life and activism of Nigerian poet Nnimmo Bassey, a staunch advocate against oil extraction in the Niger Delta. Teaming up with producer Anita Jonsterhaug Veda, Maria has already captured 60% of the documentary with a local crew spearheaded by cinematographer Allen Onyige. Now, at iREP, they seek final funding to complete filming, post-production, and distribution. The University of Waterloo delegation’s interest in supporting the project is a welcomed opportunity.
