The Nigeria Art Society UK (NASUK) is pleased to announce their
participation at 1-54 London from October 10th to 13th, presenting Waves of Change: Artistic Journeys from Nigeria to Britain, an exhibition tracing the artistic journeys of Nigerian artists who made their home in the UK. Since the mid-20th century onwards, these artists have explored complex identities, addressing Britain’s colonial past while celebrating Nigerian culture celebrating the breadth and depth of artistic expression. Inspired by the iconic
MV Aureol which brought many West Africans to Britain, the show will feature paintings, sculpture, and mixed media works investing themes of migration, identity, and social change. The exhibition will include works by members of the Nigeria Art Society UK alongside paintings and prints by Uzo Egonu, who began his art career in the UK during the mid-1940s.
