Coinciding with Frieze Los Angeles, this show marks a momentous milestone for Rele as it celebrates its 10th anniversary, continuing its commitment to cross-continental dialogue and the amplification of African and Diasporic voices in contemporary art.Both Smith and Akpojotor make visible the potent ways textiles serve as conduits of ancestral knowledge, cultural histories, and imaginative possibility. By using the intimacy of their handwork and employing textiles as cultural signifiers, they speak to individual and collective memory, the formation of identity, and historical continuity. REQuest preview LONDONPink // Blue 30 January – 7 March 2025 A solo exhibition by Nigerian Artist Ameh Egwuh – This series of painted works on canvas explores the complexities of masculinity, challenging the limitations of traditional, non-normative narratives. Drawing upon the historical and cultural associations of pink and blue, Egwuh subverts these conventional colour codes, employing them to deconstruct reductive and harmful clichés surrounding modern masculinities.Traditionally associated with femininity and masculinity, respectively, the colours are not merely aesthetic choices; they reflect deeply ingrained societal expectations and the performative aspects of gender. By subverting these binary associations, Egwuh invites viewers to engage with the fluidity and constructed nature of gender.
