New Hybrid Art Training Programme by Imal Silva Launches September 2025
In response to growing requests for structured learning opportunities for emerging and self-taught artists, renowned contemporary artist Imal Silva has announced the launch of a 6-month hybrid weekend training programme designed to bridge the gap between informal practice and formal tertiary education.
The initiative, which kicks off in September 2025, is tailored as an intermediary curriculum, a feeder system for higher institutions, while also equipping participants with the foundational skills to pursue meaningful, independent practice.
“This programme is designed to help artists position themselves globally,” Silva explained. “It combines theory, practical sessions, project-based learning, studio and institutional visits, as well as direct engagement with art collectors. The experience will culminate in a curated exhibition showcasing participants’ projects.”
Beyond technical skill, Silva emphasizes character, ethics, and values as essential to shaping contemporary culture. To that end, he will personally lead sessions on artistic philosophy, professional ethics, and the business of art.
“Artists are not just creators; they are influencers of culture. My aim is to raise practitioners who can sustain a belief-based practice, thrive economically, and positively impact their generation,” Silva added.
The programme promises to equip participants with a global perspective while nurturing local relevance — preparing them not only for advanced academic study but also for independent, professional practice in today’s fast-evolving art landscape.
Programme Start Date: September 2025
