iBAND Magazine | Don’t Keep Your Art in the Finger!

I am pleased to celebrate the international presentation of Unfolding Horizons: Female Nigerian Artists in Graz, Austria, an important exhibition featuring the works of Pamela Cyril-Egware and Juliet Ezenwa Pearce.

This exhibition represents a significant moment in the continued global visibility of contemporary Nigerian art, particularly the powerful contributions of women artists whose practices bridge tradition, material knowledge, and contemporary expression. Both artists bring forward visual languages rooted in cultural memory while engaging confidently with present-day global artistic discourse.

I am especially proud to note that both Pamela Cyril-Egware and Juliet Ezenwa Pearce are veterans of the Harmattan Workshop. The Harmattan Workshop has, for decades, served as a vital experimental and knowledge-sharing platform, nurturing generations of artists through technical exploration, cultural grounding, and creative dialogue. Their presence in this international exhibition reflects the depth, discipline, and global relevance of artists shaped within that ecosystem.

As Nigerian art continues to expand its global footprint, exhibitions such as this reinforce the importance of sustained cultural investment, intergenerational knowledge transfer, and international artistic exchange.

I congratulate the artists, the curatorial team, and the Afro-Asian Institute Graz for providing this important platform for Nigerian voices in contemporary global art conversations.
