Silent Conversations: James Irabor Debuts Solo Exhibition on Nigeria’s Independence Day.

On October 1st, 2025, as Nigeria marks its 65th Independence anniversary, the Exhibition Pavilion in Abuja will host Silent Conversations, the debut solo exhibition of visual artist James Uwagbale Irabor.

The exhibition will feature over 30 works spanning wood, metal, fibreglass, and mixed media. Featuring Collapsible Carved Wood Panels, Metals, Polyester and Concrete Cast Sculptures. This is a body of work Irabor has developed quietly over decades while serving in Nigeria’s art sector, including his years as Deputy Director of the National Gallery of Art.

Through abstraction, symbolism, and cultural motifs, Silent Conversations explores themes of identity, society, and spirituality. Highlights include Irabor’s signature hinged wood panels, metal sculptures, and fibreglass experiments, all bound together by what he calls stylised expressionism.

The choice of date is symbolic, a parallel between Nigeria’s independence and the artist’s own freedom to finally unveil his private world of creativity. Visitors can expect a thought-provoking experience that reflects on both personal and national journeys.
